Humans Do Evolve

One day I was speaking with my mother, who will soon be retiring from her job as a special needs teacher, and we about a parent of one of her former students. The parent was worried about her daughter, who just turned 20, and her habit of going out and drinking every weekend. She was so concerned with her daughter’s drinking that she was on the verge of wanting to give her alcohol at home so she wouldn’t go out. My mother talked her out of it saying that she will grow and mature eventually; I knew she was referring to me which I completely agree.

For one thing, even if the law states that 18 is considered a legal adult, mentally they are still are teenagers until they’re 20. Even then you are still a young, new adult; you are still transitioning out of adolescence which, similar to puberty, comes with its own bag of problems. It is said that one’s brain is not fully developed until they are 25, I’m 25 and I can look back at 20-year-old me and say, “That chick was a mess.” Of course there are other factors that contribute to growing up, spiritual growth, accountability, knowing your limits, and learning how to love yourself. These were all huge factors that helped me grow as a human being.

I would like to touch on these things in detail with a separate post for each factor just from personal experience. I’d like to talk about these factors help you grow and we as humans can stunt our growth without even realizing it.

You’ll be a kid for a little while, but you’ll be an adult forever.
