The Fear of Success, Getting out of the Comfort Zone

  • by

In some cases we would like to think we are doing everything in our power to reach our goals. Being a perfectionist myself, I’ve noticed one thing I do that keeps me from reaching my goals…my subconscious thoughts. This can be tricky, our subconscious thoughts are the feelings we hide from ourselves things like:

“What will happen if I do get this job?”

“Am I ready to make all these changes?”

“How will these changes effect me?”

All of these come from the fear of success, yeah people actually do have an underlying fear of being successful and not being ready for it. Working towards success requires you to get out of your comfort zone and actually achieving success will permanently take you out of that old zone and into a new one. That’s where the fear comes from, the fear of the unknown consequences of success. It can give you a heavy feeling, the feeling that takes away your drive to move forward. So what can you do to get rid of those heavy thoughts?

  1. Admit you fear it- first of all, you have to tell yourself, “I know in order for me to move forward I have to give up certain habits and it’s really difficult for me.” It’s okay to admit that, once you do you can start to see how you’re holding yourself back from your goals
  2. Remind yourself of all the good that can come out of it- You clearly want to do better whether it be in relationships, career, money or even knowledge. Your logical side knows the benefits to such improvements, so keep that in mind when moving forward
  3. Remember, no one has ever been successful doing the same thing over and over again- yes, you do have to give up old habits, friends and thinking. As I said before, when what you’re doing isn’t working for you, it’s time to do something else. Where would you rather be in 2017, in the same situation you are now or something better?

As the year closes, we have to get over our fear of success and move forward. Time only moves in one direction and you’re either moving forward or letting time pass you by. Your choice.
