For Those Who Don’t Believe In Climate Change

  • by

IT’S SNOWING IN NOVEMBER!!!

I want someone who doesn’t believe in climate change to explain to me why the climate…changed. I will never understand the blatant denial that we as humans are having an effect on the environment. Fall lasted for 3 weeks, now we have snow.

Since I’m born and raised in the South, I know what should be here and what shouldn’t. Last November, Georgia was sunny with a light breeze; now it’s November 2018 with multiple reports of winter storms. WINTER, is the main keyword. I don’t know about you but winter in the South does not start in November. I went from wearing my red dress with tights, to wearing three layers of clothes and a full winter coat.

Excuse my ranting, but it’s really a pet peeve of mine when people deny the actual scientific facts over protecting their egos. This anti-intellectualism will be our demise. Humans, like most species in the animal kingdom, strive to keep reproducing and populating the Earth. We have one thing that other animals don’t have, the ability to actively and intentionally take control of our evolution or adaptivity.

And while I do believe in a higher power, I also believe that science is a gift to help us understand God’s creation and the knowledge to co-create. I believe God gave us agency over ourselves and we can choose to follow God’s plan or follow our own. We have a choice to take the vast amount of information about climate change and work together to preserve our species or deny it and expire.

We could create a whole new self-sustaining society. But it means letting go of our old ideas and embracing what could be. For many people that will be hard or impossible to do. Politicians constantly use fear-mongering tactics to keep us in a state of anxiety. We forget we have agency over ourselves and buy into the bull. Even with the evidence staring us right in the face.

So for those who don’t believe in climate change. How’s the weather?
